Which is the best Canary Island for you? Let me show you four of the seven islands.

Which is the Best Canary Island to Visit?

In this guide, I’ll focus on four Canary Islands: Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, and La Palma.

While I’ve yet to explore the latter three, I assure you that these islands offer a wealth of experiences that could fill half a lifetime of travel.

For each destination, I’ll cover various topics and provide a summary at the end of the video to help you understand the pros and cons of each island.

Ultimately, the choice of which island is better for you is yours to make.

First up is Gran Canaria: A Miniature Continent

Gran Canaria’s landscape is incredibly varied, thanks to its volcanic history.

The island boasts desert scenery in the south and rugged shores in the north, with forests and greenery spread across its valleys, mountains, volcanoes, and peaks—some of which are snow-capped in winter.

The island’s nature and hiking trails have long been cherished by visitors, many of whom return several times a year, a tradition spanning decades.

Gran Canaria offers endless hiking possibilities, from its historical old towns with well-preserved churches and colorful buildings to the scenic inland trails.

For town hiking, I personally recommend the quaint inland towns of Arucas and Teror.

Scenic Hikes and Views

To experience the island’s best scenery, head inland to hike near renowned spots like Pico de las Nieves and Roque Nublo.

These locations offer fantastic views and are perfect for those looking to explore the island’s natural beauty.

Another notable hike is around the Caldera de Bandama. It’s a shorter trek, so I suggest pairing it with another activity to make the most of your day.

Off the Beaten Path

For those who wish to venture off the beaten path, I was particularly impressed with the hiking trails that are less frequented by tourists.

These hidden gems offer a unique and intimate experience of the island’s diverse landscapes.
