We’re Olivia and Nathan What To Do In Austin, Texas?

Texas just keeps getting better! I love Buc-ee’s, and the people in Texas are friendly—they hold doors for you, look you in the eye, and smile.

We traveled from San Antonio to Austin, arriving just two days before the biggest winter storm Texas had experienced in 70 years. We lost power and water, and our fuel and propane were in short supply.

But we made it through thanks to the RV friends we made during the storm. Once the snow melted, we had two golden days at the end of our stay to explore the city.

We went to Terry Black’s Barbecue in Austin. I hoped it wouldn’t be too busy because we were starving. The line was long, but the food was worth it.

The jalapeño cheddar sausage was incredible, and the brisket was possibly the best I’ve ever had.

Next, we visited the South Congress area, which has great food and cool shops. We ate at Torchy’s Tacos and loved the queso dip.

The area is full of interesting shops, like Allen Boots and a unique hat store called Maufrais, where Olivia custom-designed her first Stetson hat.

In South Congress, we noticed a strong hip vibe and a lot of Californians. We stopped at Big Top Candy Shop for some treats, like the triple chocolate cake truffle, which was delicious.

One of my Texas dreams came true when we went to a bar to watch live music, with the performer wearing boots and a hat. It was amazing.

We finally made it to Mount Bonnell, where we admired the beautiful houses along the water. One house, with a mini yacht and 14 jet skis, caught Nathan’s eye.

For our last activity, we tried goat yoga. It was a hilarious and adorable experience, with baby goats climbing all over us during our yoga session.

After Austin, we headed to Houston, taking a scenic route recommended by friends we met along the way. We stopped at Buc-ee’s, which many people had told us to visit.

Everything there is branded for Buc-ee’s, from fruit cups to jerky. It’s the best gas station I’ve ever been to, with an impressive variety of snacks and barbecue.

For those new to our channel, we like to include RV newbie tips. This time, it was Olivia’s first attempt at backing up the travel trailer. It took us about 10 minutes, and we managed to maintain good communication, which is key.

Backing up a trailer can be stressful, especially with people watching, but having someone to guide you makes it much easier.

Overall, our trip to Texas was fantastic, full of friendly people, great food, and unique experiences. Can’t wait to see where we go next!
