Are you heading to the Amalfi Coast of Italy and not sure what to expect? Well here we go through the do’s and don’ts of visiting …
Hey the fellow Travelers Mark here with Walter’s world and say we’re in a mouthy on the unmouthi coast and today we have for you are the tongues of visiting the Amalfi Coast here in Italy and I think I need to start with this one don’t think
The Mafi Coast is just one spot whether it’s a samalthy where you go see the cathedral and hit the beach or Positano which has got the beautiful downtown you walk through with all the steps no there are a number of villages and towns you can visit along the way when you’re here
So don’t think there’s just one Amalfi when you say the Amalfi Coast because there’s lots of little great towns when you’re here and to get between those great towns there’s a bus and I’m going to tell you right now don’t puke on the vomit bus look when you drive along the
Amalfi Coast I mean it is very much sheer Cliffs okay you won’t see very many beaches because it really is Cliffs so they’re here and so you have lots of switchbacks lots of tight turns lots of fingernail biting driving but also all those turns and stuff sometimes makes
People throw up and if you take the public bus when it’s hot and it’s packed and it’s the Sun summer people do tend to on the bus I’ve ridden the bus seven times in my life and five of those times people have thrown up on the public bus
Okay so just be aware of that don’t eat a lot before you get on the bus maybe take some Dramamine if you’re gonna do that that’s what I’m gonna tell you don’t be afraid to hire a guide to actually drive you around and show you the area because you could stay in
Sorrento you could stay in Naples or you could stay in Salerno and do a tour and it’ll take you from City to City you see Rivera up on the hills and you’re in a mavi for a little bit and go to positan and bayana there’s a lot of different
Places to go but those drivers can make your life a lot easier so you can enjoy some of those limoncellos without the how many troubles of being on a hot sticky bus okay I will say something about that but I know some people just think I’m gonna drive your mouth because
It’s so beautiful because honestly the amount because is probably the most beautiful Coastline in Europe and people think I’m gonna drive it it’s easy no it’s not don’t drive this unless you really really really have to because with those switchbacks and tight Lanes you’re gonna have to back up a few times
You might think I’m going to fall off the side of a cliff you won’t you’ll be okay you know just be safe but just know that driving here it is really something that unless you’re used to it it’s not something for the faint of heart now when you are here wherever you’re
Stopping I gotta tell you this don’t pass up the seafood in any form whether you’re getting grilled fish the swordfish around here is really good or the anchovies yes you can get fried anchovies when you’re here or marinated anchovies the spaghetti vongole the the spaghetti with with mussels or clams I
Mean there’s so many different seafood pastas when you’re here heck there’s even I know it’s not you know Seafood but you could even get pasta made in lemon yes like cooked in lemon infused water because there’s so much great food here but the seafood version of this
Stuff is fantastic so if you’re not sure what to get just pick the seafood of the day or whatever seafood pasta is on there you’re gonna be happy and when you finish your meal here don’t be surprised if they put a little yellow shot of something on the table for you that’s
Limoncello it’s a very strong lemon liqueur that’s from this region that’s a very much a must drink when you’re here whether you’re here in the Amalfi coaster you’re doing some day trips do see that limoncello pop up and don’t skip it because it’s kind of rude okay
So definitely have some and the thing is though no matter where you are with your positile or you’re a mouthy wherever you’re going to go wherever you’re going to eat we’re ever going to stay whatever you’re gonna do don’t think that the amavi coast is cheap this is a tourist
Mecca this place is packed from May through September and it gets really really a lot of people and so because they know those tourists are coming they can double the prices and kind of half the service see I mean it’s not bad but just know that it’s not going to be as
Friendly and as outgoing just because there’s so many people here the locals don’t get the time for that so if you do get a chance to meet some of the locals here don’t pass it the chance to actually meet the locals because they’re actually really cool it’s just that when
They’re in the service industry they’re go go go go go go and so you don’t always get the traditional awesomeness and you’re used to in Italy nor do you get the traditional awesome price either so don’t think it’s going to be cheap here and one of the things you can do to
Try to cut some of the costs when you are staying here is actually you don’t stay in a mouth here Positano you stay in Solaire now you stay in Surah until you stay in Naples and then you come in here for day trips okay that might be a
More economical way to stay and then you can go see some of the other sites around here but that’s one thing you could think about but if you are insisted on staying here okay don’t forget to book way ahead because accommodation here books out because it
Is so popular okay even if it is quite expensive sometimes I mean don’t be surprised if you see some famous people going around because a lot of these places have famous people pricing that you and me probably can’t afford okay but if you are going to stay book early
So you can find something that does fit your budget now you’ll notice I’m here a beautiful sunny day and you’re going to have a lot of somewhere here so don’t forget your sun protection when you do come sunblock a hat make sure you know if you want to have like a something for
Your shoulders because I’ve seen a lot of purple tourists on the beach right other side of here I’ve seen way too many burn tourists you do need to stay you know protecting your skin when you are here also don’t forget to stay hydrated because you can do a lot of
Walking when you’re here and you notice these Cliffs mean a lot of steps okay so don’t forget to bring some good Footwear when you’re walking around because Positano we’re talking step after step after step after step after step because it’s literally an up and down City not a
Not a flat City and we’re here yeah you can walk into where the cathedral is that’s nice and that’s nice and flat however other parts around here you’re going to be walking a lot so be ready for that and when you are here I gotta tell you don’t get overwhelmed with a
Tourist in May through September because it can be insane how many tourists are here parking doesn’t exist restaurants are hard to get spots I mean obviously don’t forget to book restaurant reservations for the evening times even for some some lunch times because there’s just so many people here and it
Can be quite overwhelming so if you’re not used to the tour swords don’t freak out because there will be a lot of tourist hordes when you’re here now one thing I want to tell you is since you’re here on the Amalfi Coast you are really close to some really famous extra sights
To see and so I’m going to say this don’t forget to visit some of the Vesuvius sites when you are here so that means we’re going to Pompeii you know the city that was covered in 79 A.D by the eruption of Vesuvius yes go there
And see the city and all the things that are in there or if you want something smaller you can go to Herculaneum which is a much more compact city that was actually covered by the volcano as well that’s really cool but that’s something you could actually tie in together we
Met people that were staying in Sorrento doing a day trip coming through the coast here then hitting Pompei in the afternoon it’s doable when you’re here now one thing I have noticed in the Amalfi Coast when I’ve been here and I’ve been here a number of times over
The years is don’t think they’ll humor you with your bad Italian now I speak some Italian and when I try to speak Italian here everybody just goes straight to English and it’s not because they don’t want you to practice Italian it’s not because they don’t appreciate you trying to speak Italian it’s because
They have to be efficient with all the tourists coming through here they’re gonna just switch to English just to get the order done quicker so so don’t be feel bad if your uh excuse they’re like what do you want all right so be ready for that and the thing is when you’re
Going out to eat here a little extra thing don’t feel you have to tip because Services already included so you’re okay there I mean you can leave tips don’t worry about that but just so you know what the restaurants you don’t really have to tip the bill you get is the bill
You pay now another thing you might notice when you drive around along the coast is you’ll see all these little nativity scenes like built in the side of the cliffs and stuff sometimes there’s a layover you actually go and check those out but that’s kind of a
Nice thing to see I mean Heck if you go to the gratas morelda you can actually go and they put a nativity scene in the grata you know so you have the beautiful water then you turn around there’s some Nativity seat in the water so that’s one
Of the things that’s really nice when you’re here to kind of check out now there is another way you can get here if you don’t want to take the bus so you don’t want to get the driver there is actually a ferry from Sorrento that will
Come here to Amalfi in Positano that you can take but I gotta tell you this don’t expect them to go back late at night I mean this is one of those things you’re going during the day and you’re returning during the day because they’re not going to be going when it’s dark
Okay so be aware of that so I help these don’ts help you know what to do and not to do when you are here in Amalfi it is a gorgeous place whether you’re just wandering the cities or you’re staying here or it’s a day trip I do highly
Recommend it because just the coastline itself one of the most beautiful places in the world so anyway I wish you the best I’ll say ciao from here to mouthy on the Amalfi Coast
